Our story
One kitchen, one pair of hands
Sweet Brunette is a small-batch bakeshop in Westlake, Florida. There is no shop to walk into and nothing sitting on a shelf waiting to be found - everything is baked to order, in batches small enough that one person still watches every tray.
[FOUNDER STORY - who started it, why, and what the name is about. Two or three paragraphs, first person, plain. This is the one thing on the site nobody can write for you.]
What we can tell you is how it works now. There is no production line and no second shift. We bake Mon-Fri, we bake what we have said we will bake that week, and when the day's trays are done they are done.
That is a limit, and we would rather run into it honestly than get around it. A bakery that never runs out is a bakery baking ahead of you, and you can taste the difference.
How we bake
Three things we don't move on
- 1
Small batch
Not a marketing word here. The batch size is the size one person can watch, which is why the board is short and why it changes.
- 2
Baked to order
Your order tells us what to bake, not the other way around. Nothing is made in advance and held, so nothing arrives having waited for you.
- 3
By hand
Portioned, filled, sealed and packed by hand. It is slower, it caps how much we can do in a week, and it is the entire point.
Where we are
Florida, for now
Cookie tins
Shipped to Florida. We bake here and ship within the state while we grow, because the thing we still have to prove is the box - not the baking.
Cakes
Delivery and pickup within 20 miles of Westlake, Florida. A finished cake does not survive a carrier, so we hand it over ourselves.
More states, later
We will open up when a tin can travel further and still arrive as the thing we made. Not before, and not because we felt like it. Leave your email on the home page and we will write the day we reach you.
